WAITING FOR SUMMER TO COME

Chloe Sinclair Composer
Alan Vivian Clarinet

“Waiting for Summer to Come” premiered online on 24 July 2020.

Born and raised in Canberra, composer Chloe Sinclair grew up attending Canberra Symphony Orchestra concerts and seeing Principal Clarinet Alan Vivian perform. A string player herself, Sinclair has always loved the sound world of the clarinet. Her piece, Waiting for Summer to Come, uses the entire range of the instrument.

Composer’s note

Everyone can relate to the feeling of waiting that this year has presented.

This is particularly true for the arts community as we wait for the return of live performances.

The emotional aftermath of last summer’s devastating bushfires is still within the community. This piece closes in reflection, changing tone as the thought of summer returning brings fears of another catastrophic bushfire season.
