Following the recent sell-out of 92 homes at The Aerie at Narrabundah, Lendlease Retirement Living’s plans for a new over 55s offering in Canberra are progressing well.
Lendlease Retirement Living has submitted a Development Application for Gold Creek which is set to extend their existing Retirement Living village — The Grove Ngunnawal — and help meet the high demand for independent living retirement homes and aged care residences in Canberra. With the same commitment to lifestyle and wellbeing seen at The Aerie, the exciting plans for Gold Creek include outstanding amenities and a continuum of care options within the one location.
The Grove Ngunnawal is one of three Lendlease Retirement Villages in the ACT. Completed in 2017 and containing 161 villas, the new Gold Creek precinct will further enhance the offering at The Grove and provide the opportunity for residents to age in place.
The proposed Gold Creek Precinct, subject to approval, will deliver:
- 45 premium retirement villas delivered as an addition to the adjoining Lendlease village, The Grove Ngunnawal.
- Restoration and activation of a central precinct, including the Gold Creek Homestead, with the original stone cottage, kitchen, slab hut and outdoor spaces to be retained. In other areas, community spaces will be created for both the public and residents of The Grove to enjoy.
- A new circa 100 bed Residential Aged Care facility, creating a continuum of care for retiree residents should their needs increase.
- Rejuvenation of the Homestead gardens.
- Retention and maintenance of the existing trees and vegetation on much of the site.
- Pedestrian and cycling connections with the surrounding community through a pathway across the block.
Gold Creek Homestead
Lendlease Retirement Living propose to restore the Gold Creek Homestead facility on an ongoing basis. The intention is to activate the original structure and ensure the design of the precinct respects its rich heritage. The Homestead building will provide a series of community spaces to support small to medium gatherings such as meetings, small conferences, classes for arts and craft, and education and training.
Rejuvenation of the Homestead gardens will create a multifunctional community open space, supporting flexible use of the heritage buildings. Cultural references will be integrated into signage and displays to support greater understanding and appreciation of the history and values of the place.
Continuum of care
With the full set of senior housing services including independent living, and skilled nursing and dementia care, the new precinct will allow people to age in place, remaining in the local area they already call home. Research shows that integrated independent living and aged care facilities provide the best care outcomes for residents and families. Gold Creek will become a place where residents can enjoy the best years of their lives and be assured that they will be supported and cared for even if their needs change.
Community consultation
Working with the ACT’s Suburban Land Agency (SLA), three phases of community consultation are now complete confirming the intention for the Gold Creek Homestead Precinct to take a place-based approach, seeking to build on existing community knowledge and assets, and partnering with local services to support local business and jobs.
